http://taniaroxborogh.com/uggclassicmini-uk.html Five people struck by lightning during a family outing in Maine have escaped serious injury. The lightning bolt hit its northern border end of the Mooselookmeguntic Lake campgrounds in Rangeley Plantation, inflicting varying levels of burns on the two adults and three girls who had been huddled there on top of a large rock. A 13-year-old girl who was the most severely burned was taken straight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, said Dave Reynolds, director of Rangeley Region Ambulance Service. She had a lightning entry wound in their shoulder and an exit wound in her own ankle."From what the other family members said, these were all crouched down together the same as they should be, and the lightning bolt struck, I've heard, between three and five feet away, so they're definitely very lucky," he told CBS Radio News.He added that due to the situation, the group did everything with the book, when it comes to avoiding lightning."They weren't near their tents or trees or anything like this. They were just huddled in a group near a large rock or on a large rock, and it sounded like they had done everything absolutely right." 5 were part of a larger family group that had started to set up a tent but were planning to take shelter as heavy rains moved in to the area. All of the injured were treated after which released.©2000 CBS Worldwide Inc. http://www.harpersalumspecialties.com/guccihandbags.html In the politics of oil, Russia may be the new superpower, reports CBS News Correspondent Anthony Mason."You cannot doubt the result that Russia has had about the world oil scene," said oil analyst Phil Flynn of Alaron.Earlier this year, Russia said it would cut its booming exports of oil by some five percent from next year, caving in to pressure from oil cartel OPEC to assist support world prices of crude.Key OPEC nations Saudi Arabia and Kuwait welcomed the move by Russia, the world's number two exporter and a leading rival for share of the market outside OPEC, to cut exports by 150,000 barrels per day from January 1 from current shipments of 3.0 million.Still, the plummeting prices at the gas pump, for instance, certainly are a direct result of Russia's defiance of OPEC. For Russian president Vladimir Putin, it's section of a bold political gambit, as well as the opening was September 11."We have to remember that after September 11 rrt had been Vladimir Putin who said, 'Hey, if we lose Mideast oil, you'll have a reliable partner from Russia,'" said Flynn. "This has got to shake OPEC from the core."OPEC, fighting to stem a decline in world oil prices for the back of a global economic slowdown made worse by the shock waves through the September 11 attacks around the United States, had told non-OPEC producers they should help it support the market. The Russians have not only been cozying up to the U.S., to remain trying to elbow their means by between the U.S. along with the Saudis."They're using both elbows and they are generally shoving a lot," said Roget Diwan with the Petroleum Finance Corp. And if Russia's bid for oil influence, succeeds, "It changes really dramatically the relationship that Saudi Arabia has with all the United States," Roget added. "So mafia wars has tremendous geo-political implications."Russia's resurgence has been astounding. In just 5 years it's increased oil production from 5.9 to 7.3 million barrels per day, and within another Five years, some predict Russia will pass Saudi Arabia as the world's largest oil producer."I think Russian production has nowhere to go but up, oil analyst Steven Dishevsky of Aton Capital told CBS News. "To put it in a number: the global oil supply this coming year increased by about 1 million barrels per day. Half of that came from Russia." But some wonder why the Russians have already been so eager to push up production and push down prices."Picking winners in an oil price war is similar to picking winners in a nuclear war," warns Dishevsky. "There are none."...except needless to say the consumer. For now, consider your lower gas bill a great gift from America's new oil ally.©MMI CBS Worldwide Inc. All Rights Reserved. http://taniaroxborogh.com/uggplumdale-uk.html The Rev. Jerry Falwell, apparently spurred by recent comments critical of him by erstwhile presidential candidate John McCain, is launching a drive to join up 10 million new voters of religious faith. Speaking from Lynchburg, Va., for the CBS News Early Show Thursday morning, Falwell said that the specific faith of new registrants was not as important as getting voters with strong spiritual convictions back into the political process. Within a now-famous campaign speech in February, McCain, who had been then mounting a serious challenge to GOP front-runner George W. Bush, attacked Falwell as well as other members of the religious right, calling them "the agents of intolerance," telling supporters that the party had been taken over by extremist forces. The attack is widely considered to have been a political mistake, since McCain ended up faring poorly in the Virginia Republican primary, which came about after the comments were made. Of McCain's attack on him and Pat Robertson, Falwell said: "I was surprised, because he's forever been a hero of mine. I still highly regard him as a possible American hero. He made a dreadful tactical error, because that energized religious conservatives across the country . . . and caused his political demise right quickly," Falwell said, adding: "It also helped me realize that we need to get more people of religion into action."Falwell also discussed a selection of issues that have long helped define the politics of non secular conservatives. On abortion, Falwell warned that Bush should not be tempted to choose a liberal Republican, lest he lose the support of his conservative base. "If (Bush) chooses anyone but a pro-life running mate, I think he will lose the election," Falwell said.Falwell also discussed a high-profile split together with his staunch ally, Pat Robertson, over a moratorium on death row executions. Robertson has necessary a moratorium, while Falwell wants to streamline the task. "The U.S. judicial system, though imperfect, is the best in the world. It has served us well," Falwell said. Falwell declared that, if the time between conviction and execution in death penalty cases were shortened or streamlined, it might serve as a better crime deterrent.Falwell's voter registration drive is known as "Faith 2000." "We believe that while we are able to get millions of people of faith for the polls on Nov. 7 ... we'll certainly be able to live with the results," he said.
http://www.ahlborn-kirchenorgeln.com/bottesugg.html A foot or more of rain fell in elements of the Northeast, forcing hundreds using their homes, rupturing small dams and slowing Amtrak trains into a walk.No injuries ended up reported in the areas of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland hardest hit by the deluge, but at least one woman stood a harrowing rescue.Tammy Spiese was looking to clear debris on her property near Reading, Pa., when rising water carried her into a drainage pipe. She had to get pulled out by her husband along with a police officer."I was in the water up to my neck," Spiese said. "It was extremely powerful and I had to hold onto the rocks above."South-central Nj-new jersey was hardest hit with at the very least five small dams rupturing at night time, said Kevin Tuno, the Burlington County emergency management coordinator. Lots of the dams in the area hold small reservoirs in low-lying residential areas."We've had a lot of house which are flooded, vehicles that were in floodwaters, some individuals that were caught when the dam broke that have to be rescued off the rooftops of the vehicles," Tuno told CBS Radio News. "Emergency workers <were> open asking people to move to shelters leave their residences and we had some people that were rescued from vehicles and also off of their residences."The heaviest rainfall in Burlington County was about 13 inches at Tabernacle, the National Weather Service said.Parts of northeastern Maryland got up to 8 inches of rain that flooded streets and basements Monday, and a few motorists had to be rescued when their cars stalled in deep water, officials said. The majority of the water had subsided by Tuesday morning and major roads were reopened, said Harford County official Ernie Crist.A minimum of 15 Amtrak passenger trains were delayed Monday evening in Maryland, said spokesman Daniel Stessel. Water flowing over the tracks in many places forced north- and southbound trains to slow to merely 2 mph, or walking speed, he stated. An estimated 6 inches of rain fell in eastern Pennsylvania's Berks County, where firefighters used a ship to rescue three people plus a dog trapped in two homes by Manatawny Creek, which rose about 4 feet in seconds.Water and mud rushed right into a bowling alley Monday at Pottsville in eastern Pennsylvania from a sodden embankment behind the building collapsed, and custodian John Bova and the wife hurried to open doors permit the flood out. Chances are they shut off the electricity and fled, he stated."The mountain just came down," Bova said. "We were lucky to leave."

http://taniaroxborogh.com/uggclassicmini-uk.html In a few short hours Thursday, Microsoft stock confirmed seriousness: after a strong start that took the stock to levels not seen since May, investors did start to sell shares of the software maker.Microsoft's stock ended the morning down 1-11/16 at 68-13/16 in the midst of a bearish day on Wall Street where the Dow Jones, Nasdaq composite along with other indices all closed down. The trouble began in the Dow, where investors were spooked by the poor earnings report from Procter & Gamble. The Dow lost 144.14 to end the session at 10,668.72.The Nasdaq followed, dropping 13.7 points to 3,825.56, as did the common & Poor's index, which fell 9.78 to at least one,461.58.Many analysts failed to expect Wednesday's ruling by a federal judge calling for a split of Microsoft into two companies to customize the software maker's stock.CBS News Early Show contributor Brian Finnerty said the reason behind investor's confidence is that, during a worse case scenario, their Microsoft stock holds its value."If they break them up, you'll have two giants rather than one," he added But CBS MarketWatch reports that while Microsoft soared to a a lot of 72-1/8 after the opening, profit-takers began selling the stock. Before year, Microsoft stock may be priced as high as 119 1/2 a share. The judge's ruling seemed to be good news for a number of other high-tech companies, who gets a larger share of the market if the breakup is finished, although any split will be delayed if Microsoft appeals, needlessly to say."The obvious beneficiaries would be Microsoft's biggest competitors, Sun Microsystems and Oracle, the amount two software maker, can be one as well, I think," Finnerty said. That proved true for Oracle, which defied the Nasdaq sell-off by rising 2-3/8 to 82-3/8. It absolutely was a different story for Sun Microsystems, however, which fell 1-5/16 to 87.©2000, CBS Worldwide Inc., All Rights Reserved
